Introduction Thinking Globally Medical graduates are increasingly aspiring to careers that look beyond the hospital wards and contribute to improving health on a global scale. Whether through working with deprived communities in the UK, first-hand experience in the developing world or through global campaigns such as Make Poverty History, the far reaching global causes of ill-health have never been more evident. While the need to address these problems may be clear, less obvious is how. What is a career in global health? Emergency relief work? Policy? Advocacy? This umbrella term encompasses a broad range of potential roles – deciding which particular path is most suited to you as an individual is a difficult choice. What is certain is that whichever path you choose, standard medical training alone will not provide the skills and experience you need to fulfil your eventual role. Furthermore, recent changes in postgraduate medical training demand greater planning and structure from trainees before allowing them to undertake the training needed to follow their particular aspirations. What options remain to develop the portfolio career you need? Focus your ambitions and create your own career path Join us for a day of inspirational speakers, workshops and discussions to give you the insight and advice needed to pursue your career in global health. Alma Mata, in association with the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, have put together a programme of experts with a wealth of international experience covering all key fields in global health. Not only will you get to hear what they say, but with our revolutionary Coffee Table™ technique, you will have the chance to discuss your particular concerns and queries in small groups with our panel of experts. See our full programme for more. Resources: Check out our links and publications pages for more information about global health training for doctors in the UK.
