.Ethical and .. . . . . . . . . . . . .Environmental Policy

Alma Mata believe that it is essential to take into account the indirect effects our actions have on global health............................. .................................................................................................... . Due to their detrimental effects on health that directly contradict Alma Mata’s aims, we do not accept funding from tobacco, alcohol or arms companies. . . . . . . . . . . . .
To prevent the potential conflict of interest with our members, we will also not accept funding from pharmaceutical companies. .............................................. . . .
Climate change There is a scientific consensus that climate change is being caused by human activity, most notably the release of CO2 and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The WHO has stated that anthropogenic climate change has the potential to adversely affect the health of hundreds of millions, particularly in the developing world. ......................................................................................................................................... . . .
Alma Mata are committed to minimising our contribution to global warming. We will make every effort to reduce the carbon footprint of this conference. Ways to ensure this will include:

  • Encouraging the use of public transport to and from the conference
  • Using electronic rather than printed material whenever possible
  • Providing recycling facilities
  • Promoting sustainable living throughout the conference
  • Calculating our remaining carbon footprint and carbon-offsetting it
If you have any queries, or suggestions as to how we can improve our ethical and environmental policy, please contact us here.
