Laval University Canada: Help in Underdeveloped Countries/Intervention in International Help

Course Outline:
The students have to have a good theoretical basis for preparation to get the most out of their stage.
Many students take the first year course, at the first stage: between 40-50 students. Information about the second part does not yet exist since this programme was only established two years ago. It is estimated that about 12 students will participate in the second part.

Course Modules:
Title Help in Underdeveloped Countries
Entry requirements: available to Laval students during the first two years of medical school.
Overseas placement
At the sixth credit stage, at least eight weeks are spent in South America, Africa, China or the Orient. The main focus is on observation. Medical students are placed in hospitals, orphanages or community help services.
Title. Intervention in International Help
Entry requirements: available to Laval students during the second year of medical school and involves a clerkship in the fourth year.
Overseas placement
It lasts three months and there are three different places in Cuba, Africa and China. It is called clerkship rotation and takes place in hospitals, in real hospital situations.
The focus is not on tropical medicine but on community medicine and health.
These courses are compulsory. They are offered in the first and second year.
