Natural Disaster Hotspots: A Global Risk Analysis

3.4 billion people, more than half the world’s population, live in areas at risk from at least one natural hazard.
A joint report by The World Bank and Columbia University Natural Disaster Hotspots: A Global Risk Analysis has identified high-risk geographic regions so that development efforts can be better informed and designed to reduce disaster-related losses in the future.
Disasters represent a major source of risk for the poor and wipe out development gains and accumulated wealth in developing countries. In this project the authors have assessed the global risks of two disaster-related outcomes: mortality and economic losses.
