ABSTRACT:
Public interest in using Traditional Chinese Medicine has increased significantly in recent years. This article discusses the history of the evolvement of Traditional Chinese Medicine – from a traditional medicine to an integral part of China’s public healthcare system and to western’s complimentary and alternative medicine and therapy. It also discusses about the uses, treatment, types, safety issues associated with the use and commercialization of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the diagnostics techniques use in Traditional Chinese Medicine, economic impact of commercialization, and the difference between western medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine. The author also predicts the increasing trend in the use of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the future due to high cost of drugs, high insurance cost, and the adverse effects of controlled substance.
