The Faculty of Public Health (FPH) is committed to supporting the UK Government-wide strategy for global health. Through its International Committee the FPH has contributed to Lord Nigel Crisp's report Global health partnerships: the UK contribution to health in developing countries' and the Chief Medical Officer for England's report ‘Health is Global '.

The committee hosted a successful session on ‘global health capacity building' and an international breakfast meeting at the FPH annual conference in Eastbourne in 2007.

Public health capacity remains critically short in many countries. The FPH has the opportunity to advocate regarding this resource gap and utilise the skills of its membership in addressing it.

Aims

Update delegates on implementation of:

  • Lord Nigel Crisp's report ‘Global health partnerships: the UK contribution to health in developing countries'
  • Chief Medical Officer for England 's report ‘Health is Global '
  • Other UK country initiatives
  • Global aid architecture
  • Provide a forum for delegates to learn directly from UK organisations who can facilitate UK health experts in working overseas - understand current requests, skills required, what to expect, and the support the organisation will provide.
  • Provide a forum for delegates to network, debate and discuss issues, and develop solutions.
