Mission / Vision Statement:
Médecins du Monde’s primary mission is to provide medical care. The association’s volunteers are committed to helping all vulnerable populations. To be effective, Médecins du Monde’s mission goes beyond simply providing healthcare: based on its medical practice and with total independence, Médecins du Monde speaks out against impeded access to healthcare and violations of human rights and dignity. The organisation is involved in discussions with political authorities to improve conditions for civilian populations. Médecins du Monde fights injustice in all its forms – whatever its origin.

Main areas of interest:
Emergency
An Emergency Programme can be defined as the provision of aid making it possible to meet needs that are essential to the survival of the population in distress.
Crisis
A crisis is a contextual breakdown that has a major medical impact on populations. 4 types of crisis may be identified: health crises (Aids, epidemics), political crises that generate violence (Afghanistan, Iraq, Guinea etc), economic crises that impede access to healthcare (Maquilas, ARV access) and environmental crises (nuclear etc).
Long-term
Long-term prorammes make it possible to provide sustainable solutions to the impact of poverty on health.

Structure of Organisation:
Médecins du Monde is an international humanitarian association which relies on the voluntary commitment of its members (healthcare professionals) to bring relief to the most vulnerable populations, in France and throughout the world.
The association has chosen to remain medium-sized in order to be truly flexible. It is made up of an association and a permanent body.

Opportunities:
Médecins du Monde sends mainly medical personnel on humanitarian missions (surgeons, doctors, nurses, midwifes and laboratory technicians), people who have at least two years of experience and are available for a minimum of three months. However there are a few jobs for people with no medical knowledge: administrators and logistics officers.
For all posts, international experience is desirable and some knowledge of French and/or Spanish is useful.
Volunteers receive their transport costs and a monthly allowance during their work in the field.
